Children see, children do

It is a wonderful video clip
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2635018612333643688#

It was to let all adult Australians know that they have an influence on children within their community and that they can make a difference to children's wellbeing.

As a teacher, as a parent, we have to be a good role model for children.

Enjoy.

  2. I watched this video. I felt so sad about those parents. I think it's not about all adult Australians, it's about all adult in the world. Environment, adults and media have huge influence on children, because children learn from watching others throung modeling. There is a saying in China, people learn something bad is very easy, but learn some good habits and attitudes are difficult. As a parent, we have to be a good role model for children from infancy on.

  3. This is an interesting Video Mel!
As I watched it I had goosebums! It is so powerful as you see children imitate the adults in their lives. In ECE context,it would relate to how we would like children to behave and how we behave! for example, asking children to be gentle when we aren't or to be quite when we yell!
Role modelling is important.. we need to reflect back to how we were when we were children, I remember staring at cousins older than me and being very curious of what they were doing, now I know why! I was basically taking it all in!
This also could relate to the social justice paper.. how can we role model social justice in our ECE, community and society?

  4. Yes it is sad that this negative role modling is happening in our communities, we all have a social obligation to our young and impressionable children to be good role models and show them the way to a brighter future. It is our responsibility as parents, teachers, proffessionals and as genral community public. In our proffession as ece teachers we can model repect through first repecting the children their families the environment and everybody around us.

  5. Another good video and so powerful, you tend to forget that what you say and do in the presence of others can result in copying (whether its good or bad)... as teachers we need to be reminded about the fact that we are rolemodelling our behaviour to the children in our centre. Sports (rugby, netball, volleyball and touch rugby) was my passion before taking on teaching and the amount of abuse from adults at children's game was so shameful and classed as verbal assault, I had to teach my children to ignore comments targeted at them and that not all people are like this. If only this video is shown during peak time on television... thanks Mel

  6. Hi Mel, this is a very interesting video. It reminds us adults how to teach our children and be a good role model for them.It is all about treating others the way that we want to be treated. If adults teaching children to be respected and be gentle everytime they play with their friends, then we need to be a good rolemodel for them, show them the positive way instead of negatives otherwise children will learn more negative things then positives

  7. I think at times we are so caught up on what is happening in our own little world that we as adults forget that need to provide good solid role modelling for our children..Not only for today but also to help them grow in life. Its not what we say ,it is what we do that gives children a true reflection on how to behaviour

  8. I can not go to the website, I don't know why. I like the topic though about "children se children do". Yes I believe in this because to me it seems children are copy cat. In order to be successful in our teaching, we should model appropriate behaviuor and example to our children. The bottom line here is to show respect, love and understanding to people around us for children to copy. Positive guidance is also appropriate.

  9. Hi Mel, I agree with everyone. What a powerful video. It does make you think about positive role modelling and how children imitate adults in their worl. It has made me look at myself as an early childhood teacher and i am now very aware of positive role modelling.

  10. Wow what a significant video I think this says a lot about the example we set for children and how they are influenced by the environment in which they live. Socially children develop into what they see; negative role models are going to have a negative effect on children’s lives and therefore as well as others. We have a huge role to play as teachers to ensure children are given good examples about how you treat others, the environment, and especially ourselves. I also think the video itself sends a strong message to the community about the influence we have on children’s lives should have aired in New Zealand too as I feel it is an important message for all.
